DELHI, NEW YORK- The Delaware County Department of Economic Development announced today that it will begin accepting applications from local businesses and entrepreneurs for funding through the Micro Enterprise Start-up and Expansion grant program. Through the start-up and expansion grant, new or expanding micro enterprise businesses would be eligible to apply for a working capital grant of up to a maximum of $5,000. The grant funds may only be used to offset a portion of the working capital requirements associated with either starting or expanding their business. Applicants will be required to demonstrate a minimum of one new job being created through the start-up or expansion of the business. Grants will be made on a reimbursement basis and will require a minimum of a 50/50 match by the applicant. As a requirement under the start-up and expansion grant, applicants will be required to submit a current business plan for review with their application. To assist business owners in meeting this requirement, the Department will offer assistance from department staff. Additionally, the Department will sponsor an annual Building a Successful Small Business workshop each Fall focusing on writing a viable business plan.
Applications submitted under this round of funding must be postmarked by, or if hand delivered, received by the Department of Economic Development by close of business on Wednesday, February 27, 2008. Applications will be reviewed and awards will be announced by the end of March 2008. Future funding rounds are anticipated for fall 2008 and spring 2009.
